Superyacht BREAKTHROUGH to Debut at Monaco Yacht Show 2025

Feadship’s Largest and Most Innovative Yacht Set to Make Waves

As the countdown to the Monaco Yacht Show 2025 begins, all eyes are on one of the most anticipated debuts in recent superyacht history: the unveiling of Feadship’s superyacht BREAKTHROUGH. Set to be the largest yacht ever built by the Dutch shipyard, BREAKTHROUGH represents a bold leap forward in both scale and sustainability – and her appearance at Port Hercule this September promises to be a defining moment in the future of yachting.

A Name That Says It All

Feadship’s superyacht BREAKTHROUGH (formerly known as Project 821) is already making headlines ahead of her official launch. At an impressive 118.8 metres (390 feet) and a gross tonnage of approximately 7,250 GT, she is poised to be the largest yacht at the 2025 Monaco Yacht Show and one of the most significant vessels in the global fleet.

But it’s not just size that sets BREAKTHROUGH apart – it’s what’s beneath the surface.

The World’s First Hydrogen Fuel Cell Superyacht

BREAKTHROUGH is expected to become the first true hydrogen fuel-cell powered superyacht, paving the way for a cleaner and quieter future at sea. Using cryogenic liquid hydrogen stored at an ultra-cold −253°C, the yacht’s 3.2 MW fuel cell system will generate energy with zero harmful emissions – only water.

In anticipation of her operational debut, BREAKTHROUGH underwent pioneering liquid hydrogen bunkering in the Netherlands earlier this year – an industry first that required new infrastructure and safety protocols. A biofuel-compatible diesel-electric hybrid system will complement the fuel cells, ensuring extended cruising autonomy and redundancy.

Design That Feels Like Home

Designed by RWD (Redman Whiteley Dixon) and Feadship’s own De Voogt Naval Architects, BREAKTHROUGH blends sleek, modern lines with the comforts of a luxury residence. The vessel is expected to feature a private “townhouse” concept – a four-deck owner’s suite complete with private stairwell, lift, library, lounge, and even a games room.

Guests can look forward to:

  • 14 balconies and 7 fold-down platforms for seamless indoor-outdoor living
  • An 8.2-metre glass-bottom pool with convertible decking for dining or lounging
  • A full-size basketball court, cinema, wellness centre, and Neptune lounge with underwater views
  • Accommodation for up to 30 guests and a crew of over 40 to ensure world-class service at sea

Natural materials such as rattan, eucalyptus, and limed oak will give the interior a warm, contemporary ambiance, while energy-recovery systems will heat floors, towel racks, and more.

All Eyes on Monaco

BREAKTHROUGH is scheduled to make her public debut at Stand D02 in Port Hercule. With industry insiders and enthusiasts flocking to Monaco each year for the world’s most prestigious yacht show, her arrival is expected to draw massive attention – not just for her impressive stature, but for her groundbreaking green technology.

She has been described as “the most extraordinary yacht ever built,” and the sentiment is echoed across the superyacht world. Her debut will mark a milestone moment for sustainable yachting, potentially redefining what owners and builders expect from future large yachts.

Why BREAKTHROUGH Matters

BREAKTHROUGH is not just another superyacht launch – it’s a statement of what’s possible when ambition, engineering, and sustainability align. From cutting-edge propulsion to design that feels like a floating residence, Feadship’s newest flagship is expected to reshape expectations for what a 21st-century yacht can be.

As the 2025 Monaco Yacht Show approaches, superyacht BREAKTHROUGH stands ready to not just steal the show, but to set a new course for the entire superyacht industry.
