Rotterdam, The Netherlands – 10 August 2025 – In a bold move that challenges conventional yacht design, Dutch shipyard Oceanco has launched superyacht LEVIATHAN, a 111-metre (364-foot) diesel-electric superyacht conceived with purpose, innovation, and human wellbeing at its core. Formerly known as Project Y722, LEVIATHAN signals a new era for luxury yachting – one where operational efficiency, sustainability, and crew comfort stand alongside world-class design.
A New Philosophy in Superyacht Design
Unlike traditional builds, LEVIATHAN was shaped from the inside out, with the crew actively involved from the earliest stages. This unique approach ensured the yacht was not only stunning but also functional for those who live and work aboard.
Every detail, from materials to onboard systems, was selected to reduce low-value maintenance tasks. Instead of teak decks and polished wooden handrails, Leviathan features composite capping rails, durable honed stone surfaces, natural wool carpets, and full-height glass bulkheads – enhancing both longevity and aesthetics. This allows the crew to focus on higher-value tasks, from elevating guest experiences to supporting scientific research missions.
Collaboration at the Core
With exterior styling by Oceanco, interiors by Mark Berryman Design, and naval architecture developed in partnership with Lateral Naval Architects, Leviathan’s creation was a deeply collaborative process.
The owner played an active role in steering the design toward its guiding philosophy. This spirit of teamwork is permanently celebrated onboard: a glass panel engraved with the names of over 2,000 contributors stands in the main staircase, serving as a tribute to the human hands and minds behind the vessel.
“Leviathan represents a new philosophy of yachting – one that places greater purpose at the heart of design, ownership, and operations,” said Deniz de Koningh, Project Director at Oceanco.
